I would like to explore the idea of gamification with one of my units in American Literature. I have had a great amount of success taking my classroom digital, but I would like to move forward with creating a even more blended environment,. Through this process, I hope to create a unit that allows students to work and achieve somewhat at their own pace.
I would like to create and host this "game" unit on my google course wiki. My course wiki can be accessed at www.tinyurl.com/pitmanamericanlit. This site hosts all my course content and provides ways for students to share and interact with each other. I would like to take that capability further with this project.
I love the idea of gamification for learning. In my experience, it is a wonderful way to engage people. I recently read a book by Jane McGonigal called "Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World." I really enjoyed the book and the opportunity to learn about different aspects and benefits of gamification. If you are like me and don't have a lot of extra reading time, you can also get it as an audiobook. I thought the narrator was great and it was good use of my "car" time.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of gamification in the classroom. I feel it really inspires and motivates the students. I have used it in the past but usually try to just use games that have already been created. such as icivics.org.
ReplyDeleteI was able to see McGonigal a year ago and she is a phenomenal speaker. Her games and the way she applies them are great.
Someone else to see is Paul Anderson in this TEDx

Hi, Elizabeth!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of gamification, it is a great strategy for boosting students' motivation towards learning. I have seeing and read researches talking about giving out badges, promoting competitions and activities alike. You could design online funny badges for your students every time they complete an assignment with a high quality level. That is so much fun!!!
